Summer Production Staff
Early response is encouraged; notifications for phone and in person interviews will start to go out mid-January. Deadline for applications is April 1, 2014.

DMMO Crew Heads and crews are paid hourly, receive free housing and a travel stipend.

All crew/department head and some assistant positions (marked with *) require at least 2+ years professional experience and/or work in a BFA/MFA program. All other positions require professional experience and/or work in a BA/BFA/MFA program. Special consideration will go to those who have previously worked in summer stock rep. All Stage Management applicants must be able to read music.

The following positions are currently open for seasonal employment during the 2013 summer season:

Carpentry Department: Modification and construction of scenery. No run crew.
Master Carpenter (1 position open): May 19-23 - July 25 (dates negotiable)
Shop Carpenters (1 position open): May 23 - July 25

Stage Department: Technical and dress rehearsals, work notes, repertory changeovers, and run crew.

Properties Department: Construct, alter, and fabricate all props. Run Crew Chief and Interns run shows and assist properties artisans in notes and repairs.

Wardrobe Department: Fittings and alterations for seasonal costume rental. Some costume construction. Run crew.

Electrics Department: Hang, circuit and focusing of the season plot; perform daily changeovers; run special effects during productions; assist with the set up of audio/visual equipment.

Stage Management Department: 3.5 weeks of rehearsal, technical rehearsals, running shows.

Hair & Makeup Department: Daily maintenance and setting of wigs, pre-performance application of wigs and makeup and assist with chorus quick changes.

Production Staff
Position: Opera Iowa Technical Director (Winter/Spring Educational Tour)

Des Moines Metro Opera, Inc., seeks a Technical Director for its 2014 Educational Tour with OPERA Iowa. The tour includes performances of Davies' THE THREE LITTLE PIGS and Donizetti's THE ELIXIR OF LOVE. Contract dates are mid-January through mid-April 2014. The Technical Director's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in the creation of the touring scenery, creating props for all productions, and supervising/participating in load-in and load-out of scenery at each tour site. Loads are done with the assistance of a volunteer crew. Must feel comfortable driving a box truck (16' - 26' in length). DMMO provides a travel stipend for travel to and from Indianola and covers housing with per diem while on the road with the tour.

Music/Directing Staff
OPERA IOWA MUSICAL DIRECTOR & APPRENTICE MUSICAL COACH

Des Moines Metro Opera, Inc., seeks a Music Director for its 2015OPERA Iowa Educational Touring Troupe. Dates of the engagement are from early January through mid-April 2015. Performances will include Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” and Davies’ “The Billy Goats Gruff”. Both productions are sung in English. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: musical preparation and piano accompaniment for all productions, and participation in educational workshops. The ideal candidate will possess proven leadership abilities, the ability to make decisions under pressure, and demonstrate adaptability to scheduling changes, in addition to excellent coaching skills. DMMO provides a fee ($500/week), travel stipend for travel to and from Indianola and housing and per diem while on the tour.

Ideally, the musician selected for the Music Director position, would
return to DMMO during the summer season of 2015 as the Apprentice Musical Coach. As a member of a talented staff of musical coaches and stage directors, the Apprentice Musical Coach contributes in the preparation of scene assignments within the Apprentice Artist Program for singers as well as assisting as a pianist on the mainstage rehearsals of the Summer Festival. This position provides significant professional experience and learning opportunities for talented young musicians.
