TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
Des Moines Metro Opera, Inc., seeks a Technical Director for its 2011 Educational Tour with OPERA Iowa. The tour includes performances of Mozart's The Magic Flute and Fox's Sid the Serpent Who Wanted to Sing. Contract dates are mid-January through mid-April 2011. The Technical Director's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
assisting in the creation of the touring scenery, creating props for all productions, creating simple light design and supervising/participating in load-in and load-out of scenery at each tour site. Loads are done with the assistance of a volunteer crew. DMMO provides a fee ($500/week), travel stipend for travel to and from Indianola and housing and per diem while on the tour.

Des Moines Metro Opera hires approximately 40 theater technicians to work the carpentry, electrics, properties, paints, wardrobe and wigs & make-up crews each summer. All applicants should be creative, professional individuals who have a strong work ethic and are self-motivated. During the summer festival Des Moines Metro Opera produces three operas in repertory. With a short producing schedule it is a demanding but rewarding season to get three mainstage operas up and running. Des Moines Metro Opera employs crew members from around the country from various professional arts organizations to provide a professional but learning environment. For crew heads it is a great way to teach and for our intern crew it is a wonderful way to learn while working at a professional opera company.
Crew members are in residence at the Summer Festival site from late May though mid-July. DMMO provides a weekly fee and housing. Travel stipends are available to crew heads.
