Des Moines Metro Opera’s upcoming year consists of a stunning line-up of operas and experiences that both compliment and contrast each other in remarkable ways! The 2015 Summer Festival Season will build on the company’s reputation for presenting a vibrant and dynamic tapestry of productions – productions which will appeal to both first-time opera goers as well as the many opera attendees who travel to the festival each summer from all over the United States. The season begins with two colorful favorites by master composers Mozart and Puccini – the first is a light-hearted adventure set in a Turkish Palace (The Abduction from the Seraglio) and the second takes us to the American West during the California Gold Rush (The Girl of the Golden West). The third opera offered during the Summer Festival Season will be a company premiere - Janáček’s devastating, yet stunningly beautiful drama Jenůfa will be the company’s first production sung in Czech.
In addition, two Des Moines area performances will continue the company’s 2nd Stages Series including a collaboration with StageWest Theatre Company in December marking World Aids Day and then an imaginative offering at the newly remodeled Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden in an outdoor performance as a part of the Summer Festival Season.
