Indianola, IA – Des Moines Metro Opera announces a casting update for the upcoming production of Leonard Bernstein’s Candide. Bass-baritone Kyle Albertson will assume the role of Dr. Pangloss replacing Robert Orth, who had to withdraw from the production for personal reasons. Albertson, who is making his role debut as Dr. Pangloss, was first seen on the Des Moines Metro Opera stage in 2013, singing the roles of Hobson in Peter Grimes and Duke in Romeo et Juliette. After Albertson’s return to the Des Moines Metro Opera stage, he will sing the role of Scarpia in the Virginia Opera’s production of Puccini’s Tosca. In 2020, Albertson will join the Metropolitan Opera’s upcoming productions of Tosca and Wagner’s Der Fliegende Hollander.
Des Moines Metro Opera's new production of Candide, which opens on Saturday, June 29, is led by Maestro David Neely and director Michael Shell with scenic design by Steven Kemp, lighting design by Nate Wheatley, costume design by Linda Pisano, hair/makeup design by Brittay Crinson, choreography by Todd Rhoades and features Jonathan Johnson as Candide, Deanna Breiwick as Cunegonde, Kyle Albertson as Dr. Pangloss, Jill Grove as the Old Lady, Emmett O'Hanlon as Maximilian, Eliza Bonet as Paquette, Corey Bix as the Governor, Corey Trahan as Cacambo and Wynn Harmon as Voltaire.
